The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), an international, non-profit, autonomous, postgraduate institution of higher learning based in Thailand, invites applications and nominations for the post of President. The successful candidate is expected to assume office on 1 September 2023.

The AIT’s mission is to develop highly qualified and committed professionals who will play a leading role in the sustainable development of the region and its integration into the global economy. The Institute’s vision is to be a valued international graduate institution whose education, research and intellectual property contribute to the development of Asia, by making AIT more global, more innovative, more entrepreneurial, and more economically relevant, while leveraging on its social impact core strengths.

The AIT has a current enrolment of 1,600+ masters and doctoral students from 40+ countries, learning and living together in a unique, multicultural environment, taught by a 125+ multinational faculty (including adjunct faculty) from 20+ countries. The AIT has a strong alumni body of around 24,000 from 100+ countries, and 38,000+ short-course/training alumni, who have distinguished themselves as CEO’s of private and state enterprises, as business owners, as well-respected researchers and faculty, and as senior university and government officials.

 

The President is the chief academic and chief executive officer of the Institute and is responsible for the overall conduct of its affairs, overseen by an international Board of Trustees. Central to the continued advancement of AIT is the recruitment and retention of world-class faculty, students, and staff, as well as significant investment in the academic and research infrastructure, including facilities, technologies, and staff, to support exceptional advances in research, innovation, and education. All this needs strong financial resources. This will be a unique and challenging opportunity for the right individual to lead a prestigious graduate institution in transforming AIT into a successful and robust 21st century educational institution.

 

Qualified candidates will have the following profile: ability to lead AIT as a self-sustaining and financially viable educational institution; experienced leader with interpersonal and management skills in a multicultural environment in higher education and research; distinguished academic/intellectual credentials with a deep understanding of academic advancement and research developments in the 21st century, especially in the Asian region; track record of innovative fund raising from, among others, governments, donor agencies, corporations, foundations, and alumni, and monetizing intellectual property; understanding of finance with ability to manage challenging/complex budgets aligned with the Institute’s priorities; and preferably with doctorate degree and at the age of 45 and above.

 

The term of office of the President is four years, renewable by approval of the Board for a maximum of one more term of the same duration.
