Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has been awarded the “Gold” Gender Equality Seal by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on April 24, 2026, becoming the first public institution in Asia-Pacific to achieve this level. The city improved dramatically from meeting only 8% of the Seal’s targets in 2023 to 94.8% in the final evaluation, successfully achieving 38 out of 40 indicators. This reflects strong progress in integrating gender equality into governance, budgeting, and public services, as well as reducing the gender wage gap from 3.1% to 0.9%.

Bangkok has implemented over 200 gender-responsive projects, including free sanitary pad programs and the installation of more than 30,000 LED streetlights to enhance public safety. It also established 31 BKK Pride Clinics serving over 8,400 people, particularly supporting LGBTQI+ communities. Internally, women represent 43% of the workforce and 50% of executive positions. Additional inclusive policies include 120-day maternity leave and allowing staff to dress according to their gender identity, reinforcing Bangkok’s role as a global model for gender equality.
