Thailand and Israel celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations by Planting 70 Trees of Friendship

On 12 March 2024, which marks the 70th Anniversary of Thailand -Israel Diplomatic Relations, the Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), organized the Tree Planting Ceremony at Ben Shemen Forest, whereby 70 biblical trees were planted by 70 dignitaries and participants who have constructively contributed to the bonds of friendship between the two nations.
During the ceremony, H.E. Ms. Pannabha Chandraramya, Ambassador of Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Avi Dichter, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel, delivered congratulatory remarks on behalf of the Government of Thailand and Israel. Both sides expressed their satisfaction on the cordial relations between the two countries and reiterated their commitments to further advance cooperation in all areas in the years to come. The Ambassador of Thailand extended her heartfelt appreciation to all the participants for their role in promoting long-standing ties between the two countries and underscored the shared commitment of Thailand and Israel towards a greener and more sustainable future. She also said that The trees,with their roots firmly grounded, will serve as living symbols of the deepening ties between our two countries.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture highlighted the significant contribution of the Thai workers to Israeli agriculture and economy and expressed hope that the remaining 8 Thai nationals held in captivity in Gaza would be released in the near future. Ms. Ifat Ovadia-Luski, KKL-JNF’s World Chairwoman, echoed the hope for the safe return of the Thai nationals as well as emphasized the significance of the tree planting ceremony as living symbol of the deepening ties between Thailand and Isarel.
Afterwards, H.E. Mr. Michael Ronen, Head of Bureau Southeast-Asia and India, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, read the Planters’ Prayer in English to bless the 70 trees of friendship between the two nations, comprising 5 biblical saplings, namely, pine tree, oak tree, carob tree, bay laurel tree and cypress tree.
