On the evening of 23 August 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy and the Museum for Islamic Art co-hosted the “Thai Islamic Cuisine” event at the Museum for Islamic Art in Jerusalem. Among the 65 guests included Mr. Naor Shiri, Member of the Knesset and Chairman of the Israel-Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group, executives and officers from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, executive & board members of the Museum for Islamic Art, leaders of Druze and Islamic communities in Israel, experts in Islamic Art and Studies, as well as Friends of Thailand.

 

The event aims to promote the Thai Muslim cuisine and culture, which can be reflected through the seamless integration of Islamic traditions into Thai cooking. It is also in line with the Royal Thai Government’s policy to promote Thailand’s soft power through 5F, particularly “Food,” elevating Thailand’s position as the “Kitchen of the World,” which will help promote tourism.

 

The event featured three popular Thai Muslim dishes: Salad Khaek, Khao Mok Gai, and Massaman Neau. Guests also got to savor the dessert of crispy Tab Tim and Morakot coated in colorful tapioca dough served in iced coconut milk, Thai roselle juice, and Singha beer. The event demonstrated how Thai and Islamic traditions and cooking techniques came together to create a delectable and unique cuisine, showcasing Thailand as a multicultural society where people of various ethnicities and religious beliefs live together peacefully.

 

This event is part of the special exhibition “Tastes of Heaven: Tales from the Arab Kitchen” at the Museum for Islamic Art.
